Separating elastics |
Fixed appliances are
the train tracks or braces. It is normally necessary to
place separating elastics before and after the back teeth
to fit the metal rings also called bands.
Brackets are very precise
3D handles on the teeth. Your orthodontist will place these
with great care on the ideal position on each tooth and
will then cure the glue to secure these to the teeth. A
wire will normally be placed. The wire is doing all the
movement of teeth.
Fixed braces normally
consists of two parts.
Palatal bar or molar
rotator |
1. The anchor unit which hold the back
teeth in position and these are normally connected
to the bands on the first molars.
2. Braces.
Patient cooperation is very important
to achieve a good end result. A chain is only as strong
as the weakest link. Your orthodontist will ask you to
brush well and will give you a starter pack which contains
everything you need.
- You will need to wear elastics to
make the jaws fit correctly.
- Breakages cause delays and make the
orthodontic treatment longer. Contact the practice and
tell them about breakages immediately - know the various
components and the practice will help you more efficiently.
-
Bad brushing leads to permanent change of the enamel.
Your orthodontist will tell you when it is time to remove
your braces and then you will have an additional appointment
to fit your retainers.
